ORLANDO, Fla. – Hey Insiders, it’s meteorologist Candace Campos and I am ready for a weekend poolside, especially since my pool is finally warm enough for me to get into! Luckily the threat of strong storms is out of the forecast for a few days as the heat rages on!
With the daily rain chances lately, it’s a sure sign that summer is right around the corner, and so is Hurricane Season! Coming up on June 3 at 8 p.m. the News6 Hurricane Special will air, where we go over everything you need to know to prepare for another busy season.

👀Cicada brood reunion update: They’re back! 🌱
Two cicada broods are coming out in the masses across parts of the U.S. and you can’t help but to hear them!

Northern Lights down south 🌃
Hey guys, it’s meteorologist and host of ‘Weather Wise’ Jonathan Kegges here, looking back at one of the coolest storms Central Florida has seen in a long time! I’m not talking rain and storms, but a “geomagnetic storm” that occurred last weekend.
This disturbance to Earth’s magnetic field produced an aurora borealis, aka the northern lights as far south as Central Florida! Tap here to read more on the science behind this phenomenon!

🌀Hurricane season is on the horizon🌀
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) began issuing their tropical outlooks early this year. You’re probably thinking, “Why are they doing this when June 1, the official start of hurricane season, is about two weeks away?” Hi there, meteorologist Michelle Morgan here talking about those preseason tropical outlooks.
Well, in the past years, we’ve had disturbances become named storms before the season began, so because of that, the NHC now issues outlooks earlier, beginning in mid-May, due to the possibility of early storm activity.
With the early outlooks, it’s a good reminder that hurricane season is on the horizon and being prepared is always key.
In addition to Wednesday’s, May 15, outlook, there was an earlier one issued on April 24, when a brief tropical disturbance appeared about 900 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. However, it had a very low chance of developing into a significant storm and quickly dissipated.
